Family-Based Immigration Services We Handle for Houston Families
Navigating the U.S. immigration system is hard, especially when you’re separated from the ones you love. Our Houston family immigration lawyers make the immigration process simpler and work alongside you at every step. We offer the following immigration services:
Marriage Green Cards & Visas (Including Same-Sex Marriage Green Cards)
Reuniting couples and creating solid roots in Houston is our top priority, whether you’re in a traditional or same-sex marriage. We guide you every step of the way, from I-130 visa petitions to adjustment of immigration status or consular applications in a way that addresses your needs and immigration goals. We help you prepare for sensitive U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) interviews at the Houston Field Office (located at 126 Northpoint Drive, Houston, TX 77060).
After two years on a conditional green card, our qualified immigration lawyers handle the removal of conditions so you can concentrate on living without fear. We help you document your genuine relationship and overcome USCIS scrutiny—whether you’re in a traditional or same-sex marriage.
Family Petitions and Reunification With Immediate Relatives (Parents, Children, Siblings)
Fully uniting Houston families means carefully handling Form I-130, visa bulletin wait times, and immigrant visa paperwork. Whether you want to bring a spouse, parent, child, or petition for siblings, we’re here from the start, making sure petitions are correct and cases progress as quickly as possible.
Immediate relatives like parents and minor kids don’t have to wait for a visa, but siblings and adult children can face longer waits because of annual visa caps. Our skilled immigration attorneys keep you updated with clear advice while your immigration case works its way through the Houston USCIS process.
Immigration Options After Separation/Divorce From a U.S. Citizen or Resident
Divorce or separation doesn’t automatically force you to give up your green card or legal status. If you have a two-year green card, we help you file a waiver (Form I-751) to prove you have the right to remain in the United States. Those who’ve experienced mistreatment or abuse can find safety and independence with VAWA self-petitions. Our Houston immigration attorneys support clients frustrated by both family changes and immigration challenges that they’re facing simultaneously.
Adjustment of Status – Gain Lawful Permanent Resident Status
Our experienced immigration lawyers can help you get your green card and gain lawful permanent residence without leaving Houston. If you’re already in the U.S., adjustment of status lets you apply for a green card and stay close to home while it’s processed. We prepare you for all appointments or interviews at the Houston USCIS office and cover every piece of paperwork (form I-485 and more). With our help, you can focus on future plans.
Consular Processing
When your spouse, child, or parent is still outside the country, we guide you all the way through consular processing. We’ll help you communicate with U.S. embassies or consulates abroad, prepare for requests from the National Visa Center, and make sure all paperwork is filled out correctly. If there are delays or requests for more documents, we jump in to fix problems and protect your opportunity to reunite as a family in Houston.
Spouse Visas
Worried about bringing your husband or wife to Houston? We focus on getting the right CR-1 or IR-1 spouse visa for your family. We make sure we choose the best legal pathway for your situation and will handle every step.
Family-Based VAWA Cases
For anyone in Houston facing abuse by a spouse, parent, or child who is a citizen or green card holder, you may be eligible to remain in the United States without having to use them as part of your pathway. You also don’t need our abuser’s cooperation – we handle your application confidentially, help you access safe local resources, and help you get a green card safely.
Family-Based U Visa Cases
Victims of crime shouldn’t face immigration consequences alone. U visas grant vital pathways to legal status and, eventually, lawful permanent residency. We assist qualifying crime victims in Houston with building complete, police-certified U visa packets. Once protected, eligible family members like your spouse, children, or parents may also apply.
Whether you’re pursuing United States citizenship, a temporary or permanent visa, or just need more information before you get started, our experienced immigration attorneys are here to help.
How The Family Immigration Process Works in Houston, TX
Embarking on your family’s immigration journey in Houston can feel confusing and overwhelming, but when you have knowledgeable legal counsel on your side, the immigration process becomes clear and more manageable. At every stage, our Houston immigration attorneys take on the tough paperwork, advise you on legal immigration policies, and provide direct answers so that you remain confident and informed. Below is an overview of how the process may look.
Step 1: Free Evaluation and Strategy Session With a Houston Immigration Attorney
Your first step is an in-person visit at our Houston office at 16800 Greenspoint Park Dr, Suite 175, Houston, TX 77060, or a secure virtual meeting, whichever is comfortable for you and your family. We talk through your entire situation, discuss family-based petitions, and alert you to any possible immigration issues or reasons for concern before the legal process begins. Our attorneys dig deeper than standard checklists, so nothing is missed and you always know your options.
Step 2: Application Process - File Form I-130 For Your Immigration Case (Petition for Alien Relative)
Next, we prepare and file your I-130 petition, needed to show there’s a real family relationship, and start the official case. We’ll make sure your case is routed through the right USCIS center or service lockbox, per the latest immigration law guidance. Every form and supporting document is reviewed for accuracy to prevent unnecessary customs enforcement delays or lost documents.
Step 3: USCIS Processing and Approval
While your petition is under review, our team keeps a close eye using online tools and local contacts with the Texas Service Center or the designated National Benefits Center. If USCIS needs any more information (Requests for Evidence – RFEs), we respond efficiently and keep you informed on all developments.
Step 4: Choose Your Path—Adjustment of Status or Consular Processing
If your family member is in Houston or anywhere in the U.S., we pursue adjustment of status by filing Form I-485 and planning each requirement here at the local USCIS office. If they are still abroad, our team of legal professionals handles all the consular processing, from the paperwork needed by the National Visa Center to planning the U.S. embassy interview abroad.
Step 5: Biometrics and Medical Exam
Once government approval moves forward, you’ll attend a simple biometrics appointment at one of Houston’s Application Support Centers to provide photos and fingerprints. We connect you to approved immigration doctors for guidelines on the right type of medical exam, and walk you through every detail.
Step 6: USCIS Interview (Houston Field Office)
Houston families have their interviews right at the Houston USCIS Field Office. We explain the full immigration process, run practice interviews with you, and share precisely what to bring, say, and expect. You’ll know how to handle everything because we’ve been through the process with thousands of families right here in Texas.
Step 7: Green Card Approval
Once your green card is granted, it will be sent directly to your Houston home. We don’t stop there – our immigration lawyers in Houston explain how to use your new lawful permanent resident status to get a Social Security number, apply for work authorization, and safely travel in and out of the U.S. We also outline the pathway to citizenship and prepare you for the naturalization test when necessary.
With our family-focused Houston legal team at your side, your journey is supported by compassionate advocacy and deep, local experience with family immigration.
Our Dream Team of Latino Family Immigration Attorneys Serving Houston

Founders: Vanessa and Chris Alonso
Vanessa Rae Alonso
I’m the daughter of Mexican immigrants. I grew up in El Paso, Texas, on the border—where I learned how complex it can be to identify as both American and Mexican at the same time.
I come from a humble family. My mom was a teenager when I was born, but we never lacked love or support. Family always came first.
Since I was a little girl, I dreamed of helping others and making a difference. In law school, during a visit to the camps where immigrants worked, I reconnected with my culture, my language, and my roots. That’s when I knew I wanted to dedicate my life to immigration law—to help people like my own family.
Helping Latinos resolve their immigration status became my passion. Today, I specialize in finding creative solutions for people who’ve been rejected elsewhere. My goal is to make sure my clients feel safe, have access to work, and can live the life they deserve in the United States.
Why does this matter to you, someone looking for legal help?
Because I’m Latina, and your story matters to me. I think of your family the way I think of mine. My mission is to help you find peace by providing the legal protection you and your loved ones need—so you can live without fear, knowing you are not alone in this country
Christopher Alonso
I’m Puerto Rican, raised in New York by my grandmother—the strongest woman I’ve ever known. She taught me the value of hard work and kindness. She was my role model, working tirelessly to give me a better life.
After losing her shortly after 9/11, I joined the Army to protect my country and honor her legacy. Military service shaped me—it taught me the importance of defending others.
After 19 years as a special agent, I decided to pursue my dream of becoming a lawyer. That experience gave me unique tools to identify weaknesses in a case and turn them into strengths for my clients.
Today, I fight with everything I have to reduce or eliminate criminal charges and support immigration cases. In every case, I see a new opportunity to protect families with strength and commitment—just like I’ve always done, now through the law.
As a Latino, I deeply understand the challenges our community faces. I know what it feels like to be underestimated, and I’m committed to helping you build a better future. At Alonso & Alonso, we share that pride and that purpose.
We’re here to give you the best legal representation possible—because we know how much is at stake.
Alonso & Alonso was created more than fifteen years ago by Vanessa and Chris Alonso, a husband and wife team who knew firsthand just how hard the immigration system is for Houston’s Latino families. Other Houston immigration lawyers talked about numbers, not lives; they wanted to be and provide something radically different. They set out to build a community-driven immigration law firm that saw every person as a story of perseverance, heartache, sacrifice, and possibility.
Our Dream Team
Everyone at our immigration law firm lives and breathes this promise. Our Houston immigration attorneys don’t just speak Spanish – they carry the lived knowledge of what arriving in a new country is all about. As a completely Latino-led team, we make cultural understanding the foundation of our immigration counsel.
Together, our Houston immigration lawyers offer years of proud experience serving Houston families, backed by memberships in the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and the State Bar of Texas. We help families pursue confidence and stability at every stage.

Common Questions From Houston Families
What if my family member is undocumented in Houston?
Every case is different, depending on how your loved one arrived and what their current status is. Some immediate relatives who entered legally may adjust status here in Houston, while others might need special waivers or consular processing if they entered without inspection or have some other criminal history. Call us for a free evaluation, and we’ll carefully review your available legal options for family unity.
Do you offer free case evaluations in Houston?
Yes, we provide free case evaluations for Houston families. Meet our immigration attorneys in person at our Houston office or set up a virtual consultation. There’s no obligation to move forward once you meet with us, but working with the right team can make all the difference in your immigration case.
What should I bring to my Houston case evaluation?
Bring all the IDs, passports, marriage or birth certificates you have, plus any previous immigration papers or green cards. Include any records of criminal offenses if they exist, and jot down questions you want to ask us. If you’re missing anything that we will need during the immigration process, we’ll help you get it.
What if my family immigration case is denied?
A severe immigration consequence, like a denial of your application, doesn’t have to be the end of your case; options may include a motion to reopen, reconsideration, appeal, or reapplying with stronger evidence. Our immigration attorneys will review your next steps and fight for every avenue that could keep your family together.
Does your law office serve families outside Houston?
Absolutely. Our experienced attorneys help families all across Houston, Harris County, and every nearby area, including remote and virtual consultations anywhere in Texas or the U.S.
