Lead Attorneys and Dream Team Leaders

Vanessa Rae Alonso

I’m the daughter of Mexican immigrants. I grew up in El Paso, Texas, on the border—where I learned how complex it can be to identify as both American and Mexican at the same time.

I come from a humble family. My mom was a teenager when I was born, but we never lacked love or support. Family always came first.

Since I was a little girl, I dreamed of helping others and making a difference. In law school, during a visit to the camps where immigrants worked, I reconnected with my culture, my language, and my roots. That’s when I knew I wanted to dedicate my life to immigration law—to help people like my own family.

Helping Latinos resolve their immigration status became my passion. Today, I specialize in finding creative solutions for people who’ve been rejected elsewhere. My goal is to make sure my clients feel safe, have access to work, and can live the life they deserve in the United States.

Why does this matter to you, someone looking for legal help?

Because I’m Latina, and your story matters to me. I think of your family the way I think of mine. My mission is to help you find peace by providing the legal protection you and your loved ones need—so you can live without fear, knowing you are not alone in this country

Christopher Alonso

I’m Puerto Rican, raised in New York by my grandmother—the strongest woman I’ve ever known. She taught me the value of hard work and kindness. She was my role model, working tirelessly to give me a better life.

After losing her shortly after 9/11, I joined the Army to protect my country and honor her legacy. Military service shaped me—it taught me the importance of defending others.

After 19 years as a special agent, I decided to pursue my dream of becoming a lawyer. That experience gave me unique tools to identify weaknesses in a case and turn them into strengths for my clients.

Today, I fight with everything I have to reduce or eliminate criminal charges and support immigration cases. In every case, I see a new opportunity to protect families with strength and commitment—just like I’ve always done, now through the law.

As a Latino, I deeply understand the challenges our community faces. I know what it feels like to be underestimated, and I’m committed to helping you build a better future. At Alonso & Alonso, we share that pride and that purpose.

We’re here to give you the best legal representation possible—because we know how much is at stake.

Our immigration attorneys are fully bilingual and ready to assist you in both English and Spanish. Immigration Services You Can Get Help With From Our Austin Area Law Office

If you or your loved ones need help with immigration issues in Austin, our law office offers a full range of legal services to guide clients through the U.S. immigration system. We understand how stressful and confusing immigration cases can be. Our attorneys are dedicated to helping families, individuals, and workers secure their legal status and reach permanent residency when eligible. Our team has extensive experience with all stages of the immigration process, including:

U Visa

A U Visa helps people who have been victims of certain crimes, like assault or domestic violence, and who help police or prosecutors investigate. We guide you through gathering the right evidence and filing your application so you can feel secure while your immigration case moves forward.

T Visa

The T Visa is a relief for people who survived human trafficking—including those who were forced to work under abusive conditions, suffered labor exploitation, or were coerced to “work off a debt.” This can cover situations like threats, confiscated documents, unpaid work, or being controlled by an employer or smuggler.

You can qualify even without an investigation or police report. Evidence can include your statement, medical or psychological records, messages, witnesses, or community/advocate letters.

VAWA (Violence Against Women Act) Visa

This visa option lets victims of abuse by a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident spouse, parent, or child apply to stay in the country without the abuser’s help. We assist with preparing your application and collecting proof of your experience. As a victim of abuse you can self-petition for a VAWA visa but it is recommended to speak with an experienced immigration lawyer to give your application the best chance of success.

Humanitarian Visa

Other than the U or T visas, some victims may fit an option known as a Humanitarian Visa. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services looks at applications from those facing emergencies, including urgent medical needs, unsafe home environments, or separation from vulnerable family members.

Work Authorization and Employment Visas

Getting legal permission to work in the U.S. can be confusing, but we help with every part of the process, whether you need an employment-based visa, a PERM labor certification, or support for workers with special skills. We work with you and, when needed, your employer to handle the paperwork and keep your future on track.

Marriage and Family-Based Petitions and Visas

Family visas are essential for keeping loved ones together. Whether you’re engaged, married, or helping close relatives, we manage applications for marriage-based, and family-sponsored visas to help reunite or keep your family together.

Consular Processing

Navigating the consular processing system means working with U.S. embassies or consulates overseas to apply for a visa or green card. We guide clients through each step, ensuring paperwork is complete and deadlines are met.

Waivers

If you face problems in your immigration process, like past visa overstays or inadmissibility, you might need a waiver. Our firm helps you prepare and submit these waivers, giving you a stronger chance to fix issues that could otherwise stop your application.

Adjustment of Status

This lets someone already in the United States apply for a green card without having to leave the country. We guide you through collecting the right paperwork, filling out forms, and responding to immigration officials

Advance Parole

If you qualify to apply for a green card from within the U.S. and need to travel outside the country for emergencies, we can handle those requests and keep your legal process on track.

Appeals

If the judge decides your case and you lose, you can file an appeal. There are strict deadlines and procedures for each step, and we will walk you through the entire process.

Medical Deferred Action

Medical deferred action is a form of immigration relief that lets certain non-citizens stay in the U.S. while getting life-saving medical treatment, even if they don’t have legal status. We can help by preparing the necessary documents, explaining your medical needs to immigration authorities, and guiding you through each step.

Criminal Law

If you’ve been arrested or charged with a crime, even minor charges can seriously affect your life or immigration status. We understand how criminal and U.S. immigration laws intersect and will make sure we do everything possible to protect your immigration status and your freedom.

All Green Card and Citizenship Processes

We provide legal assistance for every part of the citizenship and green card process. This covers preparing your forms, organizing all needed documents, navigating your interview with immigration officers, and addressing questions about lawful permanent residence and naturalization.

We know that no two immigration cases are the same, and our firm understands that you deserve individualized counsel for the specific situation you’re facing.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Bring any paperwork or documents you have that are related to what you need done. This could include a passport, a marriage record, a divorce record, or anything that will help us understand what’s going on. Bring a list of questions too, so we can help you to the best of our ability.
