Meet our team
Lead Attorneys and Dream Team Leaders
Vanessa Rae Alonso
I’m the daughter of Mexican immigrants. I grew up in El Paso, Texas, on the border—where I learned how complex it can be to identify as both American and Mexican at the same time.
I come from a humble family. My mom was a teenager when I was born, but we never lacked love or support. Family always came first.
Since I was a little girl, I dreamed of helping others and making a difference. In law school, during a visit to the camps where immigrants worked, I reconnected with my culture, my language, and my roots. That’s when I knew I wanted to dedicate my life to immigration law—to help people like my own family.
Helping Latinos resolve their immigration status became my passion. Today, I specialize in finding creative solutions for people who’ve been rejected elsewhere. My goal is to make sure my clients feel safe, have access to work, and can live the life they deserve in the United States.
Why does this matter to you, someone looking for legal help?
Because I’m Latina, and your story matters to me. I think of your family the way I think of mine. My mission is to help you find peace by providing the legal protection you and your loved ones need—so you can live without fear, knowing you are not alone in this country
Christopher Alonso
I’m Puerto Rican, raised in New York by my grandmother—the strongest woman I’ve ever known. She taught me the value of hard work and kindness. She was my role model, working tirelessly to give me a better life.
After losing her shortly after 9/11, I joined the Army to protect my country and honor her legacy. Military service shaped me—it taught me the importance of defending others.
After 19 years as a special agent, I decided to pursue my dream of becoming a lawyer. That experience gave me unique tools to identify weaknesses in a case and turn them into strengths for my clients.
Today, I fight with everything I have to reduce or eliminate criminal charges and support immigration cases. In every case, I see a new opportunity to protect families with strength and commitment—just like I’ve always done, now through the law.
As a Latino, I deeply understand the challenges our community faces. I know what it feels like to be underestimated, and I’m committed to helping you build a better future. At Alonso & Alonso, we share that pride and that purpose.
We’re here to give you the best legal representation possible—because we know how much is at stake.

McAllen Immigration Services
Our team of seasoned lawyers has successfully handled thousands of immigration cases, giving us the experience to stand by you at every stage of your journey. Our team of lawyers also represents our clients in other legal matters, providing diverse services:
Family Immigration
From filing USCIS and Department of State Forms I-130, DS-260, and I-485, for different immigrant visas, to meeting the challenges in the family immigration process, we ensure all immigration cases are handled properly, with the best legal services.
Work Permit
Without a green card or citizenship, most non-immigrants and even aspiring immigrants with unapproved petitions need a valid work permit to be employed in U.S companies. A work visa allows entry and ties you to a specific employer, while a work permit (EAD card) proves your legal right to work once you are here. Alonso & Alonso have helped hundreds of clients secure their Employment Authorization Document.
Immigration Consultation
With an option to consult with bilingual Alonso & Alonso professional attorneys, who are fluent in both English and Spanish, we provide a safe environment for expert consultations, maintaining respect.
Alongside our immigration services, we also represent clients in personal injury matters, particularly auto accidents, with solid knowledge of the legal process in Texas and other states. Whether it is immigration or personal injury, you know you are not alone in a foreign land.
Marriage Visas
Marrying a U.S. citizen or a Lawful Permanent resident can make you eligible for an immigrant marriage visa. Couples prefer our McAllen marriage visa services to get an error-free application process, ensuring a quick path to bring their spouse to the U.S.
Humanitarian Visas (VAWA, T, U)
Humanitarian visas are U.S. immigration protections for people facing violence, exploitation, and persecution. They can provide lawful presence, a work permit (EAD), and in many cases, a path to permanent residency (green card)—often without leaving the U.S. In order to apply for a humanitarian visa, the situation had to occur in the United States, and the victim must be present in the country when filling out their application. Our dedicated McAllen humanitarian visa attorneys have the experience to help you get the best possible outcome based on your situation and a path to achieving your dreams inside the United States.
Green Cards & Adjustment of Status
If you are already in the U.S. when you start your green card application process, you may be eligible to go through the adjustment of status process, depending on the immigration category, current immigration status, personal background, etc. Our McAllen adjustment of status lawyers review your eligibility, prepare your application, and organize all required documents to help you obtain a green card without leaving the U.S.
Consular Processing
When processing immigration petitions from individuals who have applied from outside the U.S., our McAllen immigration lawyers communicate and manage filings with U.S. embassies and consulates (and the National Visa Center) located in your home country.
Waivers
From fee waivers and waivers of joint filing to waivers of criminal history, our McAllen immigration attorneys handle everything, from start to finish.
Immigration Appeals
For most USCIS and Immigration Court decisions, there is a process to appeal and get the decision overturned. Alonso & Alonso attorneys have handled the appeals process for hundreds of applicants, securing the best possible outcome.
Medical Deferred Action
Our immigration lawyers in McAllen can help with medical deferred action, allowing immigrants without legal status to stay in the U.S. while they or their family members receive life-saving medical care.

Questions Frequently Asked by McAllen Immigrants
Based on our experience, most immigrants are confused about the process and have several doubts. With so many sources of information available (most of them inaccurate), they don’t know what to believe or whom to trust.
Here’s a list of questions most commonly asked by immigrants before starting their process to better explain the process:
How much does an immigration lawyer cost in McAllen?
The amount charged by an immigration lawyer in McAllen, Texas, depends upon the expertise and skills of the lawyer, the visa type, and the complication in the case. At Alonso & Alonso, we are very upfront about the fees and let you know all the costs at the first consultation, with no hidden fees or extra charges.
How much does a green card cost in McAllen?
The cost of a green card includes government filing fees, which often account for a significant portion of the overall green card cost. There are also miscellaneous costs, such as medical examination expenses, documentation preparations, translation costs, and legal fees for a lawyer or a preparer.
We ensure you understand the entire green card process, as well as the costs involved, in the different stages, during the initial free evaluation with our immigration lawyer in McAllen.
What should I bring to my first consultation?
For the first consultation with our McAllen immigration lawyer, you should bring all the relevant immigration documents. This will include court documents, photo IDs, passport and visa details, beneficiary and sponsor information, marriage and birth certificates, and financial documents.
Since most green card applications are different, you may also require additional documents. It’s best to be thorough, and you should bring all the documents you think are relevant. If you are still confused, you can call our law office for clarification before the in-person consultation.
Can you help if I have a criminal history?
Certainly, at Alonso & Alonso, we have a track record of helping hundreds obtain legal, even taking on complex cases other lawyers won’t take, due to any criminal history issues. From obtaining waivers for criminal history to unlawful entry waivers, we have done it all. We get the best possible outcome, so that your criminal history doesn’t affect your future immigration case.

How long do immigration cases take?
Most immigration cases take at least a few months, and others may even take a couple of years to process. Factors include the USCIS processing center backlog, the number of visas available in your category, the country you are from, and even any mistakes in your application. Each one of these factors can delay the procedures of your application.
Having a McAllen immigration attorney by your side can make a difference. With expert legal help, you can prevent many delay-causing mistakes and even get guidance on when to opt for premium processing.
