Looking for an experienced immigration lawyer in Houston that you can trust?
Look no further than the experienced attorneys at Alonso & Alonso.
Houston is home to one of the largest immigrant populations in the country, with nearly one-third of its residents coming from around the world to build a new life. While the city offers economic opportunities, peace, and a welcoming community, the process immigrants must go through to make this city their legal home can often be overwhelming without the right legal support.
Although millions of immigration visas and green card applications are filed every year, only a select few are accepted. Much of the time, the key difference between a denial and getting a green card is the proper legal support.
At Alonso & Alonso Attorneys at Law, we are dedicated to offering individual immigrants and their family members professional support and strategic advice to give them the best chance of filing successful immigration petitions.
Backed by more than 15 years of legal experience in serving the Houston, TX community and a stellar track record of helping hundreds of applicants obtain legal status, our immigration law firm, Alonso & Alonso, provides a family-centered Latino approach to immigration.
Even before you pay anything, an experienced Houston immigration specialist will sit with you for a free evaluation to listen, understand your situation, and budget. After that, we will identify the best options based on your immigration history, goals, and circumstances. Additionally, we offer bilingual services for the Houston Latino community.
At Alonso & Alonso, we take a family-first Latino approach where our clients are treated as part of the community, rather than as a mere case number.

Meet our team
Lead Attorneys and Dream Team Leaders
Vanessa Rae Alonso
I’m the daughter of Mexican immigrants. I grew up in El Paso, Texas, on the border—where I learned how complex it can be to identify as both American and Mexican at the same time.
I come from a humble family. My mom was a teenager when I was born, but we never lacked love or support. Family always came first.
Since I was a little girl, I dreamed of helping others and making a difference. In law school, during a visit to the camps where immigrants worked, I reconnected with my culture, my language, and my roots. That’s when I knew I wanted to dedicate my life to immigration law—to help people like my own family.
Helping Latinos resolve their immigration status became my passion. Today, I specialize in finding creative solutions for people who’ve been rejected elsewhere. My goal is to make sure my clients feel safe, have access to work, and can live the life they deserve in the United States.
Why does this matter to you, someone looking for legal help?
Because I’m Latina, and your story matters to me. I think of your family the way I think of mine. My mission is to help you find peace by providing the legal protection you and your loved ones need—so you can live without fear, knowing you are not alone in this country
Christopher Alonso
I’m Puerto Rican, raised in New York by my grandmother—the strongest woman I’ve ever known. She taught me the value of hard work and kindness. She was my role model, working tirelessly to give me a better life.
After losing her shortly after 9/11, I joined the Army to protect my country and honor her legacy. Military service shaped me—it taught me the importance of defending others.
After 19 years as a special agent, I decided to pursue my dream of becoming a lawyer. That experience gave me unique tools to identify weaknesses in a case and turn them into strengths for my clients.
Today, I fight with everything I have to reduce or eliminate criminal charges and support immigration cases. In every case, I see a new opportunity to protect families with strength and commitment—just like I’ve always done, now through the law.
As a Latino, I deeply understand the challenges our community faces. I know what it feels like to be underestimated, and I’m committed to helping you build a better future. At Alonso & Alonso, we share that pride and that purpose.
We’re here to give you the best legal representation possible—because we know how much is at stake.

Alonso & Alonso Houston Immigration Services
Alonso & Alonso provides legal representation in all subjects under the immigration policies and nationality law, to foreign nationals, and even aspiring immigrants.
Here’s a list of immigration services we offer, using strategic advocacy to help clients face their challenges with confidence:
Family Immigration Services
U.S. immigration law allows immigrants to file a family-based petition for their family members, including spouse, siblings, parents, etc. However, for each family member, immigration will depend on the relationship, as there are various categories, including family-based green cards, spousal visas, fiancé visas, and much more.
Work Permit
A work permit, commonly known as an Employment Authorization Document, gives a temporary authorization to immigrants to work in the U.S, while immigrants from specific categories have pending immigration applications, which makes them eligible for work. Unlike a work visa, a work permit is not restricted to a specific employer. Our work permit lawyer reviews your eligibility, prepares and files Form I-765, and makes sure your application is submitted on time.
Humanitarian Visas
With comprehensive family-centric support services, the firm helps in filing urgent Humanitarian Visas if you are unable to reside/return to your home country, or need to enter the U.S. due to some emergency.
VAWA Visas
Our strategic advocacy helps victims of extreme cruelty or battery in obtaining travel permits, social security, and non-immigrant visas.
T Visas
A T visa is available to noncitizens who have been victims of trafficking or severe exploitation by the person who brought them to the United States, including forced labor and other types of abusive laboral practices. Our Houston immigration attorney reviews eligibility, prepares documentation, and provides representation in immigration law matters.
U Visas
For victims of any crime, a U visa provides a non-immigrant visa path to stay in the U.S. with dedicated support from Houston immigration attorneys and other legal professionals.
Work Permits
After entering the U.S. without a valid work permit, no one is allowed to work except U.S. citizens and green card holders. We help in processing and securing a work permit through the different options available under the immigration and nationality law.
Consular Processing
Even if a U.S. immigration application has been filed for someone who’s living outside the U.S., getting expert legal advice from an experienced Houston immigration lawyer in the U.S. can streamline your permanent residency process.
Adjustment of Status
Our best immigration attorney coordinates with immigration authorities in filing an immigration application for someone living within the U.S., including any concurrent and subsequent filings to protect status to stay, work, and travel in the U.S.
Waivers
With waiver options such as criminal record waivers, fee waivers, and joint-filing waivers, Alonso & Alonso can help you choose the one that best fits your situation.
Criminal Law
Aggressive criminal defense from the best immigration lawyer in Houston is sometimes crucial in protecting current and future immigration status.
Medical Deferred Action
With legal representation from the right immigration lawyer, it can be easier to file a Medical Deferred Action. This is applicable if the person has a child who is a U.S. citizen and suffers from a serious medical condition that requires their physical presence in the U.S.

Houston Immigration Lawyer FAQs
Based on the type of questions most asked by clients, here are the answers to the most common questions applicants have about the immigration process.
How much does an immigration lawyer cost in Houston?
The fees charged by an immigration lawyer in Houston depend on the level of experience, the type of petition, and the complexity involved in the immigration system for the appropriate immigration route for you. At Alonso & Alonso Law Firm, complete transparency about pricing is provided at the free initial evaluation.
What should I bring to my first consultation?
The types of items that should be brought to the first consultation would vary, depending on whether it’s an employment-based, family-based, or humanitarian-based petition. However, typically, the following should be brought to the first consultation:
- Information about the aspiring immigrant, including details of any criminal record
- Financial documents (required for sponsorship)
- Proof of U.S. residence/citizenship (for sponsors)
- Details of any prior immigration petitions
- List of notes and questions
Even if a few additional documents are required, it’s not a big deal. You still can get professional legal guidance from our Spanish immigration attorney in Houston.
Can you help if I have a criminal history?
Absolutely. Even if you have a criminal history, Alonso & Alonso Law Firm can help. In most cases, having a criminal record doesn’t directly disqualify you from getting a green card, although it does make the process more complicated. However, the Firm has helped several immigration applicants with criminal records, so we’ll be able to handle your case.
Does your team in Houston offer services in Spanish?
Certainly, Alonso & Alonso Law Firm has many native-Spanish speaking immigration lawyers in Houston, ensuring that language doesn’t become a barrier in the immigration process.
How long do immigration cases take?
The overall time period for immigration petitions in Houston depends on the type of application, the legal status of the sponsor, and mistakes in the application, as well as the backlog of the center processing the application.
The entire process can take anywhere between a couple of months and a few years.
