Lead Attorneys and Dream Team Leaders

Vanessa Rae Alonso

I’m the daughter of Mexican immigrants. I grew up in El Paso, Texas, on the border—where I learned how complex it can be to identify as both American and Mexican at the same time.

I come from a humble family. My mom was a teenager when I was born, but we never lacked love or support. Family always came first.

Since I was a little girl, I dreamed of helping others and making a difference. In law school, during a visit to the camps where immigrants worked, I reconnected with my culture, my language, and my roots. That’s when I knew I wanted to dedicate my life to immigration law—to help people like my own family.

Helping Latinos resolve their immigration status became my passion. Today, I specialize in finding creative solutions for people who’ve been rejected elsewhere. My goal is to make sure my clients feel safe, have access to work, and can live the life they deserve in the United States.

Why does this matter to you, someone looking for legal help?

Because I’m Latina, and your story matters to me. I think of your family the way I think of mine. My mission is to help you find peace by providing the legal protection you and your loved ones need—so you can live without fear, knowing you are not alone in this country

Christopher Alonso

I’m Puerto Rican, raised in New York by my grandmother—the strongest woman I’ve ever known. She taught me the value of hard work and kindness. She was my role model, working tirelessly to give me a better life.

After losing her shortly after 9/11, I joined the Army to protect my country and honor her legacy. Military service shaped me—it taught me the importance of defending others.

After 19 years as a special agent, I decided to pursue my dream of becoming a lawyer. That experience gave me unique tools to identify weaknesses in a case and turn them into strengths for my clients.

Today, I fight with everything I have to reduce or eliminate criminal charges and support immigration cases. In every case, I see a new opportunity to protect families with strength and commitment—just like I’ve always done, now through the law.

As a Latino, I deeply understand the challenges our community faces. I know what it feels like to be underestimated, and I’m committed to helping you build a better future. At Alonso & Alonso, we share that pride and that purpose.

We’re here to give you the best legal representation possible—because we know how much is at stake.

Austin Immigration Lawyer FAQs

How much is an immigration lawyer in Austin?

The cost of your immigration lawyer depends on the case and what you need. When you come to our firm, we’ll discuss pricing with you transparently, so you’re never left wondering or surprised down the line.

What does a green card cost in Austin?

A green card comes with government fees that usually total between $1,200 and $2,000. Lawyer fees vary. We are clear about all charges upfront and can discuss this during your first free meeting.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Bring any paperwork or documents you have that are related to what you need done. This could include a passport, a marriage record, a divorce record, or anything that will help us understand what’s going on. Bring a list of questions too, so we can help you to the best of our ability.

Can you help if I have a criminal record?

Yes. We have handled cases for clients involving minor and major criminal records. We’ll do what we can to make sure this doesn’t affect your goals.

Is help available in Spanish?

Our lawyers and staff speak Spanish, so you never have to worry about being misunderstood. If you speak another language, we can arrange for a translator.

How long does an immigration case take?

Every case is different, so it’s hard to say. It could take anywhere from a few months to a year or more. For example, achieving permanent residence takes longer than getting a work permit. The best way to figure out how long your case will take is to speak with your lawyer.

How can I schedule a free evaluation with an Austin immigration lawyer?

You can schedule a free case evaluation by calling our Austin office or using the online contact form on our website. During this evaluation, we’ll ask questions to determine your eligibility and discuss your options. We are dedicated to providing honest, transparent advice with no pressure, ensuring you understand all your options before moving forward with an Austin immigration lawyer.

Do your Austin immigration attorneys handle cases for the U Visa, T Visa, or VAWA?

Yes. Our Austin immigration attorneys have extensive experience providing comprehensive legal support for vulnerable individuals. We specialize in humanitarian relief, including U Visas (for crime victims—subject to annual caps and current processing limitations), T Visas (for forced labor and human trafficking survivors), and VAWA self-petitions (for victims of abuse or mistreatment by a qualifying relative). We’ll provide honest guidance about current processing realities and your best path forward.

How can you tell if an immigration lawyer in Austin is any good?

A reputable immigration lawyer in Austin should have a proven track record, positive client testimonials, and deep roots in the local community. Look for an attorney who is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and has specific experience handling complex cases like yours. A “good” lawyer will never promise a guaranteed outcome, but they will offer a clear, honest strategy during your initial consultation. At Alonso & Alonso, our 15+ years of experience and 4.7-star rating reflect our commitment to excellence and the trust we’ve built with Austin families.

I need help with family sponsorship; what types of family-based petitions do your Austin immigration lawyers manage?

Our Austin immigration lawyers focus on keeping families together. We handle a wide range of family-based petitions, including parent-child petitions, sibling sponsorships, and other qualifying family relationships. However, we do not handle marriage-based visas or fiancé visa filings. Our focus is on complex humanitarian cases and family reunification matters where we can provide the most value to our clients.

Does Alonso & Alonso Law Firm offer services in Spanish at your Austin immigration law office?

Yes, our firm is proud to be fully bilingual. All our office staff and attorneys speak fluent Spanish, ensuring clear communication, full understanding, and comfort throughout your legal journey.

What should I bring to my first appointment with an Austin immigration attorney?

For your first meeting, please bring any existing immigration paperwork, a passport, birth/marriage/divorce records, and any documents related to the case (e.g., police reports, medical records). Most importantly, bring a list of all your questions so your Austin immigration attorney can address every concern.

If I have a past criminal history, can I still get help from an immigration lawyer in Austin, Texas?

Yes, we have a strong track record of helping clients with complex histories. Our immigration lawyers in Austin, Texas, understand the intersection of criminal and immigration law and are skilled in preparing and submitting necessary forms to protect your legal status.

What questions should I ask an immigration lawyer in Austin?

When meeting with an immigration lawyer in Austin, it is important to ask:

  • “How many cases similar to mine have you successfully handled?”
  • “Are you a member of professional organizations like AILA?”
  • “Will you be the one appearing with me at my hearings and interviews?”
  • “What is the total expected cost, including attorney fees and government filing fees?”
  • “How often will I receive updates on the status of my case?”

Asking these questions ensures you choose a firm that offers the personalized attention and transparency your family deserves.

What does an immigration lawyer in Austin do?

An immigration lawyer in Austin acts as your legal guide and advocate through the complex U.S. immigration system. We do more than just fill out forms; we analyze your unique history to find the best legal path, represent you in front of USCIS or the Immigration Court, and prepare you for high-stakes interviews. Our role is to protect your rights, help you avoid costly application mistakes, and provide strategic solutions for challenges like case appeals or removal proceedings.

Do immigration lawyers actually help?

Yes. While it is possible to file paperwork on your own, an immigration lawyer provides critical advantages that significantly increase your chances of success. The U.S. immigration system is notoriously complex and prone to sudden policy changes; a single administrative error can lead to years of delays or a permanent denial.

An experienced attorney helps by:

  • Identifying Hidden Risks: We analyze your history to spot issues (like prior entries or minor criminal records) that could trigger a deportation proceeding if handled incorrectly.
  • Strategic Advocacy: We don’t just fill out forms; we build a legal narrative for cases like VAWA, U Visas, or Waivers to prove your eligibility to the government.
  • Court Representation: If you face a judge at the Greenspoint Immigration Court in Houston or proceedings in Austin, a lawyer is your only line of defense to argue legal motions and protect your rights.
  • Preparation: We personally prepare you for high-stakes interviews with USCIS officers so you know exactly what to expect.

At Alonso & Alonso, we specialize in “impossible” cases, providing the legal expertise necessary to turn a potential “no” into a life-changing “yes.”

Can an Austin immigration lawyer help me if I need to file an appeal for a denied case?

Yes. If your case is denied by a judge, we offer experienced representation for the appeals process. We understand the strict deadlines and complex procedures involved and will fight tirelessly to overturn the decision and secure a favorable outcome.
